Column of Progress
Overview
Artist: Angela Mia Del La Vega
The triangular column consists of three sculpture reliefs celebrating Oro Valley's first non-native settler, George Pusch. The mountain is Pusch Peak, part of the Catalina Mountains, named in his honor. The steer represents Pusch's vocation as a cattleman, and the steam pump was assembled by Pusch at historic Steam Pump Ranch to water his cattle, that of other ranchers, cavalry, prospectors, and stagecoach teams during the late 1800s.
